Mexican documents collection, 1839-1905.

Holograph Spanish documents chiefly consisting of public records recorded by several notary publics in Zaragoza, Puebla, Mexico. Most papers deal with land sales, house sales, mortgage payments, debts, court proceedings and other legal matters. There is also correspondence to and from the State of Jalisco, 1841-1880 and a petition from the State of Sonora to the National Congress, 1869. The notary publics of Puebla, Mexico include Francisco Chavez Ortiz, Angel G. Figueroa, Gregorio Sandoval, and Santiago Carreto. Summaries and translations were prepared by Henry F. Dobyns.

Dr. Henry Dobyns joined the Cornell Peru Project as its Research Coordinator in 1960, after receiving his Ph.D. from Cornell.
